Your ads are spending and the leads aren't closing

You launched the ad. You picked the audience, you wrote the copy, you chose the image. Clicks come in. Money goes out. Nobody books. So you turn the budget up, because that is the only lever on the screen. ## The platform is usually not the problem We look at real campaigns with real spend every week, and the same four things keep breaking. None of them is the ad. ## 1. You sent them to a website instead of asking for their number Traffic feels like progress. It is the number that goes up, so it is the number people watch. But if you do not have their name, phone and email, you do not own anything. You are hoping they come back. Most of them do not, and you paid for all of them. A lead form asks while they are still holding the phone. A website redirect asks them to decide, find the right page, scroll, and then decide again. That is three chances to leave, and they take one of them. ## 2. You are chasing leads that were never leads Some people type a fake number. Some were bored. Some are three months from doing anything and will not say so. If every one of those gets the same follow-up as a real one, your week fills with calls that go nowhere and you start to believe ads do not work. Ask two or three questions before they get to the thank-you page. What do you need help with right now. Which service. What stage are you at. It is a small amount of friction and it buys back your entire Tuesday. The counter-argument is fair: every question you add costs you submissions. It does. Fewer forms, and the ones that arrive are worth a call. If you are short on volume and long on time, ask less. If your calendar is full of people who were never going to buy, ask more. ## 3. Nobody has watched what happens after the click Running ads without watching behaviour is guessing with a budget attached. Session recordings, Microsoft Clarity is free and takes about ten minutes to install, show you where people click, how long they stay, where they get confused, and where they leave. Often the ad is fine. The button is below the fold on a phone. The form is on the wrong side of a scroll. The headline answers a question nobody asked. ## 4. Right message, wrong moment An ad that lands at 2pm while someone is at work is not the same ad at 9pm on the couch. And once someone has been to your site, they are no longer a stranger. Warm audiences convert better than cold ones, every time, and retargeting them costs less than finding new ones. ## How to tell which one is yours Go in this order, because each one makes the next one readable: 1. Are you capturing contact details, or sending traffic to a page and hoping? 2. Of the leads you did get last month, how many were real? Count them. 3. Have you watched a single session recording of someone on your landing page? 4. Do you know what hour your best leads came in? If you cannot answer one of those, that is where the money is going. Not in a new creative. ## The uncomfortable part None of this is a secret and none of it is hard. It is four afternoons of unglamorous work: a form, three questions, a tracking script, a look at the hour-of-day report. The reason it does not get done is not that it is difficult. It is that turning the budget up takes one click and feels like action, and the four afternoons do not feel like anything until a month later. Spending more on a campaign that does not capture leads just buys more of the same silence. --- If you want someone to look at your actual campaign and tell you which of the four it is, book a call.
