You paid for the click. Nobody called them back.

You paid for the click. Nobody called them back.

Someone saw your ad at 9:40pm, filled out the form, and went to bed. You saw the email the next morning. You meant to call. A client thing came up. You called at 4pm the following day and got voicemail. Two days later they signed with somebody else. You paid for that click. You paid for it the same as the one that closed. That is the leak. Not the creative, not the audience, not the budget. The hours between someone raising their hand and someone answering. ## What you are actually buying A click is attention. A form fill is attention with a phone number attached. Neither is revenue. Revenue happens in a conversation. Everything between the click and that conversation is handling. And for most businesses running ads, the handling is a person remembering to check an inbox. That person is you, usually. And you are in a meeting. ## What normally happens after a form gets filled Honestly? Not much. The form sends an email. The email lands next to forty other emails. Someone might paste the name into a spreadsheet. Maybe. Meanwhile the person who filled it out is going on with their day. They filled out two other forms while they were at it. The one that called back first is the one that got the job. ## The part nobody wants to hear You do not have a lead problem. You have a response problem, and it looks identical from the outside. Both look like "the ads aren't working." Both make you want to fire the ad guy, change the creative, raise the budget. And if the handling behind the ad has not changed, better ads just means more people sitting in an inbox going cold. This is the uncomfortable version, so here it is plainly: if you cannot say what happened to every enquiry from last month, who answered, when, and what they said, then more ad spend buys you more of what you already cannot see. ## What has to be true instead Four things, and none of them are software questions: **Someone answers fast.** Not that day. Minutes. Interest decays from the moment they hit submit, and you do not get it back. **There is more than one attempt.** People get busy and forget they reached out. That is not disinterest. One touch and done means you are paying for clicks you never really followed up on. **Every enquiry lands somewhere everyone can see.** One place, not an inbox, not a spreadsheet on one laptop. **You can see where they stop.** New, contacted, booked, showed, closed. Lots of enquiries and few bookings is a follow-up problem. Lots of bookings and few closes is an offer or expectation problem. Those are different fixes, and without the stages laid out you cannot tell which one you have. ## The question that changes the spend Most ad conversations ask: how do we get more clicks? The better question, and the one that costs nothing to ask this afternoon: what happens after the click, and who does it happen to? Pick the last ten enquiries. Write down when each one came in and when someone actually spoke to them. If you cannot fill in the second column, you have found where the money went. --- *If you want a second pair of eyes on where your enquiries are going cold, [book a call](/book).*
